How to Endure Meetings Constructively - My Approach
by Room 215 ini occasionally attend sunday meetings, either just for curiosity or to placate my dear wife.
i've recently developed a method whereby i tune out all the proceedings from the platform and audience, and take to reading acts (i've just begun to learn a great deal about roman history via audio cds from the teaching company, which i listen to on my long commute to work).
the lecturers on these all highly praise the accuracy of the book of acts and all the gospels in general, in terms of their accurate depiction of life in judea and the hellensitic kingdoms under roman rule.

When you were a JW
by searcher inwhat was it that made you believe that you were so important that you deserved to live forever?

Living forever was not what attracted me - I never cared and still don't care about living forever. I can't even fully comprehend what that would be like - just like I have always had trouble comprehending any sort of infinity like the universe, God ... Having said that, it was the idea of God that attracted me. From an Atheist background, it was fascinating to consider the possibility of an intelligent creator (v chance). It was even more fascinating to consider that this God may/will intervene in human affairs. I liked that idea. Whether or not I, personally, was gonna 'make it', never concerned me, that was minor detail ... I still enjoy believing in God ...

Oh, dear, here we go again ... I'm so sick of the anti-uni BS. There are entire industries where the drugs, alcohol and/or immorality would be equally or more prevalent. You don't have to go to uni to be exposed. Many people in our cong make their living from 1-2 specific industries which, I believe, would not be immune from such exposures. But somehow uni gets the brunt of the 'satanic' accusations.

What is the financial cost to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Thechickennest inhas anyone ever figured out what the cost is to be an average active jw?
i am thinking of the jw costume of clothes for the whole family & drycleaning.
the four door sedans, the fuel, repairs, and auto cleaning up costs after running a shuttle service at least serveral times a week.

ARMAGEDDON IS HERE
by DoomVoyager infor real this time, i promise!.
you may have heard of the collapse of several large us financial institutions this morning.
the fact that this event coincides with a major natural disaster hitting the us is, according to my parents, 100% conclusive proof that armaggedon has in fact begun.

Yes, DV, last Sunday was torturous (sp?).
I made a decision a long time ago that when I do pre-read (sad, yes, I often - still! - prepare when I do go to the meeting, I hope I'll get over it one day)I underline only the quoted scriptures, nothing else. In other words I don't underline WT statements. So the point I'm leading to is that I had very few 'underlines' in last Sunday's article because most of it was made-up stuff.
Don't know why I went ...
